George leads in three winners
Garry George (Beulah) took training honors this week with a winner in the regular Tuesday timeslot and a double in the Saturday timeslot. Other local trainers were also in the spotlight with wins too the Hartigan team (Horsham), Andrea Gurry (Nhill), Fullerton Team (Red Cliffs), and committee member Ian Robinson (Avoca).
Take The Steps broke his maiden status over the 485m journey at the club’s regular Tuesday meeting. Having to work hard for the early lead Take The Steps was able to turn for home with a break but was put under pressure the entire length of the Horsham straight but the big dog just clung on for victory winning by a head in 27:88sec.
George then backed up at the Saturday meeting with a double with wins to Scooba Steve and Crank It. Scooba Steve produced a last to first victory working his way through the field to take an inside run on the corner then dashing away up the home straight winning in the smart time of 23:43sec.
Crank it jumped well from the inside draw but was made to work hard for the early lead, on cornering he shot away and went home a comfortable winner in the smart time of 23:35sec.
Major Mike for local Horsham trainers Bill and Helen Hartigan produced an explosive run on Tuesday night; after jumping midfield he exploded through the field to lead them up turning for home going away comfortable two length victor in the nice time of 23:44sec.
Team Fullerton (Red Cliffs) won the last on the Tuesday card when Dash Of Sally produced a perfect box eight run holding her position perfectly through the corner to straighten for home in second position, Dash Of Sally then simply swooped down the outside winning impressively in 23:72sec.
Saturday night also saw victory for Andrea Gurry (Nhill) when Circle The Space jumped midfield but mustered up quickly to take the lead entering the corner taking total control of the race running away a four-length victor in 23:65sec.
Committee member Ian Robinson (Avoca) then pulled off a massive upset when his greyhound Pyrenees Chateau blew favourite backers out of the water with Chateau saluting at the huge odds of $87.50. Chateau positioned second early but was simply too strong for early leader Squeegees’ Ride who went within a head of making it two from two, but Chateau was just that bit stronger winning by a nose in 23:82sec.
