Horsham Golf on top after round one

Horsham Golf has concluded round one on top of the ladder in division one of the Wimmera Bowls Competition with a 105 to 69 win over Kaniva at Horsham Golf Bowls Club, with all three rinks winning.

Rink one, skippered by Geoffrey Baid, featuring Danny Schmidt, Heath Miller and Ken McLelland, defeated Kaniva's Jeffrey Meyer (skip), Malcolm Coutts, Colin Maddern and Janet Kuchel 34-22.

Rink two, skippered by Gavin Walter, featuring Graeme O'Connor, Graeme Deleeuw and Hayden Tucker, had a closer encounter, winning 33 to 28 over Bruce Dodson (skip), Russell Crouch, Tyler Cooper and Maree Van Kempen.

The third rink, skippered by Ashley Batchelor featuring Bradley Robinson, Stephen Harris and Chris Mellor, defeated Paul Pearson (skip), Christopher Larocca, Adrian Coad and Steve Duthie 38-19.

Horsham City defeated Dimboola 81 shots to 63, winning two rinks at Horsham City Bowling Club.

Rink one, skippered by Daniel Gloury, featuring Bruce Campbell, Bryan Avory and Derek Ballinger, defeated Robert Pyers (skip), Wayne Albrecht, Peter Harradine and Shirley Thomas 32-16.

Rink two, skippered by Anthony King, featuring Rob Dolby, Geoffrey Inglis and William Hogan, defeated Greg Cook (skip), Judith Albrecht, Donald Haines and William Eldridge 30-14.

Dimboola's rink win was skippered by Peter O'Loughlin, featuring Darryl Both, Alan Krahe and Mervyn Roberts. They defeated Kevin Clyne (skip), Graham McDonald, Govan Bellinger and Colin Morrell 33-19.

Coughlin Park defeated Sunnyside 72 shots to 58, winning two of the three rinks at Sunnyside Bowling Club.

Sunnyside claimed victory in rink one, skippered by Rex Bergen, featuring Barry McIntyre, Roger Macinnes and Ronald Magor. They defeated Robin Shaw (skip), Craig Decker, Rowan Hawkins and Terry Sartori 24-19.

Coughlin Park had a thrilling 20-18 win in rink two. Michael Ellis skippered the rink, which featured Charles Officer, Paul O'Shannessy, and Robert Mewburn. Sunnyside's rink, captained by John Ackland, featured Dale McRae, Rodney Skurrie, and Ron Tollbring.

In the third rink, Coughlin Park won 33 to 16. Greg Sleep was skipper, featuring Allan Thompson, Kevin Cramer and Mervyn Dean. Sunnyside was represented by Chris Trotter (skip), Gavin Watson, Jillian Coutts and Debra Macinnes.

On Sunday at Nhill Bowling Club, Nhill hosted Goroke Edenhope and won by 89 to 56 shots, winning two out of three rinks.

Nhill's rink one, skippered by Kevin James Jones and featuring Brad Blackwood, Barry Morrison, and Roger Brown, won 31-11. Geoff Lowe skippered Goroke/Edenhope's rink, which also featured Travis Crawford, Robert Stacey, and Barry Crick.

Hugh Caldow skippered Goroke/Edenhope's rink two to a 24-21 thriller. Richard Smith, John Burchell and Gerry McDonnell were the other bowlers. Nhill's rink was skippered by Darren Gebert and featured Greg Ryan, Terry Robins and Daryl Leyonhjelm.

Nhill had a comfortable 37-21 win in the third rink. Allan King skippered them, and Ivan Reichelt, Barry Cramer, and Shaun McDonald were also part of the team. Philip Robinson skippered Goroke/Edenhope, which featured Bruce Ackland, Wayne Caldow, and John Moloney.

In division two, Natimuk defeated Horsham Golf 73-59, Horsham City defeated Dimboola 74-60, Coughlin Park defeated Sunnyside 77-69, and Nhill defeated Goroke/Edenhope 95-35.

In division three, Coughlin Park defeated Sunnyside 91-32, Horsham Golf defeated Sunnyside 58-53, Kaniva defeated Nhill 80-41, and Nhill defeated Horsham City 66-59.
