Nhill make their move following massive scalp
The Nhill Bowling Club is making its move in the Wimmera Lawn Bowls pennant competition, moving to second on the ladder following a 90-67 win over Horsham City played at Nhill in round nine.
Nhill easily won two rinks on Saturday after rain threatened to ruin the day. The rink, skippered by Allan King, featuring Ray Olney, Greg Ryan and Ivan Reichelt, won 36-21 over Michael Turner, Govan Bellinger, Graham McDonald and skipper Kevin Clyne.
Their other rink, skippered by Kevin Jones and featuring Roger Brown, Barry Morrison, and Brad Blackwood, won 38-19 over City's rink, skippered by Daniel Gloury and featuring Bruce Campbell, Colin Morrell, and Derek Ballinger.
Horsham City's winning rink was skippered by Anthony King and featured William Hogan, Geoffrey Inglis, and Ron Dolby. They won 27-16 over Nhill's rink, skippered by Darren Gebert and featuring Russell Dunlop, Terry Robins, and Ryder Byrnes.
Their win moves them to second, one game behind Coughlin Park. It is Horsham City's second consecutive loss after leading the competition unbeaten after seven rounds two weeks ago.
At Kaniva Bowling Club, Coughlin Park continues to roll after their first loss in round seven, with a close 75-63 win over Kaniva, winning two rinks to one.
Craig Decker skippered Coughlin Park's rink, which featured Allan Thompson, Kevin Cramer, and Mervyn Dean and won 29-22. Adrian Coad skippered Kaniva's rink, which featured Russell Crouch, Paul Pearson, and Janet Kuchel.
Their rink, skippered by Michael Ellis and featuring Charles Officer, Greg Sleep, and Timothy Nihill, won 29-19 over Kaniva's rink, which featured Tyler Cooper, Bruce Dodson, Chris Larocca, and skipper Darren Maddern.
Kaniva's winning rink, skippered by Jeffrey Meyer and featuring Malcolm Coutts, Colin Maddern, and Robert Puglisi, won a tight match 22-17 over the rink featuring Terry Sartori, Peter Beasley, Rowan Hawkins, and skipper Anthony Woodhead.
At the Horsham Golf Club, the home side defeated Goroke/Edenhope 97-62, winning two rinks. The rink, skippered by Ashley Batchelor, featuring Danny Schmidt, Stephen Harris and Ken McClelland, won 45-16. Geoff Lowe skippered Goroke/Edenhope's rink, which featured Barry Crick, Matthew Anderson and Terry Exell.
The rink skippered by Bradley Robinson, featuring Chris Mellor, Heath Miller, and Geoffrey Bald, won 33-15 over the rink skippered by Philip Robinson, which featured John Moloney, Wayne Caldow, and Bruce Ackland.
Hugh Caldow skippered Goroke/Edenhope's winning rink, which featured Richard Smith, John Burchell, and Terry Crawford. They won 31-19 over the rink skippered by Gavin Walter, which featured Graeme O'Connor, Denis Ballinger, and Hayden Tucker.
In the other match, Sunnyside defeated Dimboola 80-56 at Sunnyside, winning two rinks and drawing the other.
Rex Bergen skippered Sunnyside's drawn rink, which featured Brendan Lloyd, Paul Southcott, and Ron Tollbring. Peter O'Loughlin skippered Dimboola's rink, which featured Mary Argall, Greg Albrecht, and Darryl Both.
The other thrilling rink of the day was Sunnyside's 25-22 win. John Ackland skippered their rink, which featured Gavin Watson, Murray Heard, and Jillian Coutts. Dimboola's rink, skippered by Greg Cook, featured Robert Pyers, Mervyn Roberts, and Judith Albrecht.
Sunnyside's rink, skippered by Stuart Cowan, featuring Chris Trotter, Roger Macinnes and Rod Skurrie, won 34-13 over the rink skippered by Alan Krahe, featuring Wayne Albrecht, Peter Harradine and Shirley Thomas.
In division two, Nhill remains on top of the ladder with a 76-63 win over Horsham City. In the other matches, Sunnyside defeated Dimboola in a thriller, 76-74, and Horsham Golf was too strong for Goroke Edenhope, winning 94-36.
In division three, Nhill 3 remains on top of the ladder, equal with Coughlin Park 3 following an 81-30 win over Coughlin Park 4. In the other matches, Horsham City 3 defeated Sunnyside 3, 74-53, and Horsham Golf 3 defeated Kaniva 2, 72-49.
